Sad Conclusion

I need to buy a new washing machine.

There are about 50 other things I would rather spend a load of cash on, but I can't avoid this anymore. 8 months ago my washing machine declared war on my clothing. Back then 1 in 100 items would come back with small brown spots on it. Now it is up to 1 in 10. When I wash my clothes they are supposed to come back clean not newly dirty right? What am I supposed to do - keep buying new clothes? Darn washing machine. It always picks my newest, favorite item to ruin. Why can't it ruin the Araphaoe High school soccer shirt I borrowed from my sister-in-law 3 years ago?

So I need your help. What kind should I buy? How much do I have to spend? Should I go ahead and spring for a new dryer too?

Are they rust spots? Sometimes you can run a cycle with vinegar or bleach and it will clean out the washer. I would do some looking around--you may not need to replace it yet! Of course, I would just be happy with having a washing machine at home. Maybe Heloise could help?

We bought a new washing machine 3 yrs ago, its a front loader from Kenmore and it is glorious. It gets clothes cleaner than my old junker and more in a load, this means alot with 4 kids (buy for the future) The closer was that it saves water and electricity. Some places in CO. will even give you $$$ for buying an eco friendly washer!

We just bought the front loader LG washer and dryer. I absolutely love them. They are the higher end model that you can do the steam fresh (steams shirts, no more ironing) and the santitize option. Get nasty smells or spills out of clothing. The money sucks to spend on them, but they are worth it in the end!!!! Good Luck

I am with Emily. I spent 3 months researching w&d to death. Your best bet is a front-loading LG. We spent 1900 for both. We shopped high and low for these babies. Best Buy gives deals on floor models. Everybody will offer rebates up the ying yang, but we have never seen our rebates refunded yet! We ended up getting them at Home Depot. Good luck. See Model WM1814CLW for last year.

i got the whirlpool duet from costco. i thought they were not terribly expensive (front loaders are great) and it works like a DREAM. i barely have to pre-treat stains, and you know with my crew i'm putting some pretty gnarly stuff in there. i highly recommend them.

you can try them out when you're here... if you can wait that long.

We have the front load kenmore also. THE BEST WASHER AND DRYER ever!!! I love it. It was definitely a splurge but worth every penny. But I'm thinking that steam things sounds amazing. I hate ironing!

Go to your local library and ask to see the Consumer Reports magazine on washers. So helpful!

Well...maybe not my favorite shirt. But would you settle for top 5?

Thanks all for your great suggestions. In researching on-line a lot of people have complained about a bad smell from their front loader. Anyone having this problem?
