36 years ago today...

...this handsome devil was born. Travis Stratford is a wonderful father, husband, friend, co-worker, Mac user, photographer, political activist, and most importantly, the biggest minimalist you've ever met. But those are the things you probably already know. Here are some things you may not know:

Travis loves candy. No, he LOVES candy. After his recent battle with kidney stones, when asked how big they were once they finally emerged, he said, "They are about the size of a Nerd." He then got a box of Nerds and started eating them.

Travis is a master Facebooker. I'm confident if things don't work out for studioCase in the long term, Travis could parlay his Facebook skills to generate an income.

Travis is always cold. Unlike most couples, where the girl is always cold, I'm the one who's always telling Travis to turn down the heat or take a blanket off the bed. Could it be his incredibly low percentage of body fat?

Travis likes playing "Devil's Advocate". He will often take the opposing view of any argument, just to make things interesting.

Travis loves to travel, but does not love to unpack. Often his suitcases will sit out for days (or weeks) until I break down and unpack it for him.

Travis does not cook. At all. He considers making a bowl of cereal a culinary feat.

Travis is a beautiful snowboarder. The first time I knew I loved him was when I watched him snowboard. He is graceful and elegant on the snow; not something many can pull off.

Travis never cries. Ever. Even while writhing on our kitchen floor in pain last week, while passing the kidney stone, he moaned and groaned but never cried. Only one time has he even come close to tears; when he was giving a talk in church and was speaking about his mother.

Travis is super-strong. I think he can bench 205. Tony? Is this right?

Travis takes the longest showers IN THE WORLD. This contradicts his environmentalism... but he loves his long, hot showers.

I'm sure you all have things you know about Trav that I don't know. Take a minute here to post a comment about Travis; what you like about him or what makes him special. I'm so glad he was born, and that he married me! Happy Birthday Travis!!! I love you... up to the sky.

Travis taught me (and my best friend Natalee) to snowboard. And he was an oh so patient teacher. I still can't believe he would be seen with me in my hot pink pants from the 80s plus my army green eddie bauer coat from the 90s. Wow.

Travis is funny. His mind is like a razer. He can remember a joke or funny occurence for years - and always brings it up at the funniest moment out of no where.

Travis is super super super nice. If there is anyway he can help you he will go out of his way to do it - and do it perfectly, the way he would do it for himself.

I LOVE YOU TRAVIS.

Travis used to stalk Sara at BYU. He would knock on our door late at night with NO COAT in the middle of winter and say "I was just skateboarding in the neighborhood and thought I'd stop by". Other times I would glance out the window and say "Sara, Travis just cruised by again". It was pretty cute.

Maybe he somehow created lowbody temperature from all those nights w/no coat in the cold Utah weather. Since I too am always cold, he and I are always fighting for placement by any electric or real fireplace that is ablaze.

Travis loves, loveS, lovES, loVES, lOVES, LOVES Sweden. Anything to do with the country, the bilar, the language, the peeps, the name, anything. Since we served together in this most wonderful but "not-so-religious-accepting" place, he always shares fun things with me.

Travis has an incredible work ethic and is extremely successful and good at what he does. His kids ADORE him.

I love you too Travis and Happy Birthday.

travis is a wellspring of graphic artistry and creativity. it always makes me smile to see something generated from his perspective. he reminds me a lot of my brother dave (trav, follow the link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/westerndave/ think you'll enjoy my bro's eye)

travis is sporting a new dickie addition to his face in one of these photos. up until today, i thought the dickie could only be pulled off by dickie himself... my hero mr. david crosby. i'm so happy to be wrong. and travis... wow.

and finally, the words of f. scott fitzgerald come to mind.... "you always look so cool."

happy birthday travis. i've missed seeing you guys. know that i adore you and sara and think of you so much and beyond the beyond. hope this next year will bring you the sun and the moon.

Travis makes anyone feel at home. Whenever we went to NY to visit the Palmers and there was extra space at his apartment he would invite us to stay there and EVEN offer his bed.
Feliz Aniversario I hope you go to Brazil again when I am there

Every 8 yr. old skater/snowboarder needs role models like I had. I'll never forget seeing Travis (and his crew)shreddin' the arrowhead hills! Thanks for being a continued inspiration. Happy Birthday Trav!

Dentist husband's best friend served his mission with Travis and only had GREAT things to say about him. Also, Dentist husband's uncle worked with him in NY and calls him a genius and "He will be hugely successful with whatever he does."

T-rav has an amazing sense for capturing the value in a moment, and projecting the worth of the memory that moment will someday become. His knack for photography aids in this, as does his propensity towards nostalgia--

Travis, you are great. Thanks for helping preserve so many memories for all of us. Happy Birthday.

Over many years of being on the receiving end of his many talents, I can tell you that Travis is like a flight attendant for Japan Airlines--he makes you feel that it's his great pleasure to serve you. Although he's never brought me a hot wash, which are really nice on long flights. Even so, he's one in a million.

Trav is my hero - I just wish we could live closer to him. Generous and kind. A true friend and a snappy dresser. Much love from Angie and Charles - Have a great birthday and come visit. Bring the family. Love you.

Two seasons as his apprentice meant a lot to me. I probably wouldn't even be half-graduated if not for his looking out for a kid.

Happy, happy birthday, Travis dear. You are an excellent friend, boss, computer genius, photographer, travel companion, and conversationalist on long rides to Skillman. Hope this year is the best ever for you.

happy fetchin birthday brother Stratford.
Your the smartest-funnest-humblest-most excited for life-ish-hunkish (especially with that village people mustache) fella ever. I feel lucky to be on your team.
And travis does cry - I saw it when he benched 205.
hollar!

travis is not ageist or sexist. he's always treated me like a person (not just enoch's mother). i feel like i can reveal my true feelings (whatever the heck they happen to be to him). plus he's a proactive worrier (puts his worry to work). enoch couldn't have a better friend.

Travis and I have exchanged maybe 5 or 10 words, but I've used those few words to ask for some big favors.

Travis is a GREAT person to ask a favor of. He makes you feel like he's not put out at all, and that he's delighted to help out.

And these favors have been pretty hi-end, involved favors — like taking aerial posed shots of 3 rambunctious kids — but Travis does whatever he can to make it great. He takes giving favors really seriously it seems.

What a cool guy! So glad I know him. Happy Birthday Travis!

Travis is a great snowboarding sidekick or it is great to be his snowboarding sidekick (it is yet to be decided who is the sidekick), except when I am talking to myself on the lift b/c Travis is listening to music. He didn't even know I was talking.

We were glad you came to Colorado for Christmas.

Travis, sorry for the late post but I was vacationing without internet access or a cell phone. It was like living in the early nineties.

It's funny that you were such a teaser as a sibling when we were little, becuase now you are so nice and thoughtful. I guess you grew out of it. I'm always impressed by your style and taste and how smart you are. Above and beyond that I admire how you love your family and work so hard. I love you very much. I hope you had a great birthday and vacation.

Love, sally

in fact he is rather skilled at that, as well.
