Laura Turns 40!

Unbelievable! Today our darling Laura turns 40... yet she looks not a day over 12. In honor of your special day, Yah Yah, I decided to skip the traditional list making and instead devote my poetry-making skills to honoring you. So I started off with some haiku, tried a limmerick, and I think we'll all be happy I decided to skip writing you a sonnet. Here you go!

Chocolate in the fridge
It looks delicious... calling me
Hands off! It’s Laura’s.

A well deserved massage
Relaxing... then, POP!
That was my sternum.

Laura is running
We see her on Ithaca
And on Broadway, 2 hours later

Watching a movie
Laura is baking again
Turn off the mixer!

A LIMERICK FOR THE LOVELY LAURA

Laura, Laura where do I start?
I’m singing your virtues, but what’s the best part?

You’re kind, you’re loving, you’re generous to a fault.
You also make a delicious Oreo malt.

Your neighbors below, they’re increasingly crazy.
I’m sure that they wish you were a tiny bit lazy.

You run and you run, through the wind and the snow...
And often with several sweatshirts in tow.

You bake the best treats, of that there’s no doubt.
And I bet you could make something tasty of trout.

Always the one to bring the very best gift to a party,
Which makes up for the fact that you probably arrived tardy.

She can sleep like a champ; she can sleep all day long,
And she does a great job playing or singing a song.

She’s fun and gregarious, and an ace question asker.
And when working at night, is a huge multi-tasker.

Her body is tiny but her heart is GIGANTIC,
And I think that her favorite movie might be Titanic.

She’s a lover of fleece, it’s her most favorite fabric...
and she is considered by some to be quite a maverick.

She excels in her callings, others’ love for her abounds.
But her love for everyone doesn’t extend to hounds.

So Laura, for you, in your 40th year...
May the chocolate flow freely, more abundant than beer!

I love you Laura. Thanks for being the WORLD'S best sister, aunt, friend, and running partner (or general partner in crime). Wishing you the best year yet!

Happy B-Day Laura! I would say I hope it is a good one but I know that you are here at work.

Sara's tribute captures so many of your qualities perfectly.

Happy Birthday my biggest (and littlest) sister. I'm so glad you are in my life. You are so thoughtful. You are always up for any activity suggested. You are very aware of others and seek to make them happy, comfortable, loved, full, etc. Your generosity is legendary. You have the BEST laugh around. I love you so much and don't know what I would do without you!

A true connoisseur of all cakes and all things sweet! Maybe that's why she's so sweet herself. Laura is the best aunt 3 nephews and 1 niece could ever hope to have. That is meant as no disrespect to those other aunts of hers that spoil my kids terribly and are wonderful, too!

Happy Birthday, Yah Yah!

Happy Birthday Laulie! We sure love you and hope you have a great day. I can still remember when I was little and being so excited for Laulie to come with her gum balls! YUM! I think of you every time I eat one!

Happy Birthday!

Love Liza

I love the part about Laura being a good question asker, so true! That is what makes her so easy to talk to. She makes you feel as through you are the most interesting person she has ever spoken to. She is also my running idol. Happy Birthday Laura!

These poems were great! I liked the question asking part too. You are so good at making conversation and finding out about people. I hope you have a wonderful birthday! 40 is the new 30, you know. (At least that's what I keep telling myself.) Happy Birthday!

Sweeet, now i have next year's bday card. Holy smoke, I am unworthy of such sisters [oh and Rand isn't too shabby either]. Most of you know I'm not one for being "spotlighted" [unlike the Denham Lewis sister who manages to drag her bday celebrations out for weeks] but the day has been the best with well wish emails, calls, and poems.

I LOVE IT THANKS

So now that I've read all the comments, including my own I would just like to take this opportunity to bear my testimony of BLOG posts and how they can really make someone feel AMAZING. Thanks to everyone for your words. And by the way, I meant "Christmas Card" instead of "Birthday Card".

Laura. Easily one of my favorite people ever. And to think that I'm friends with that girl in the blue dress at FHS singing "Don't cry for me Argentina". You inspire me in so many ways. I cherish our friendship and love you to pieces! Happy Birthday dear friend.
And Sara...well done. Hilarious.

Well here it is 11 PM and I am waiting for the birthday girl to shower her with hugs and kisses and a few gifts but ALAS she is still at work!!!!! Dad just turned into a pumpkin, long day at the temple and 18 holes of golf yesterday. We were going to stop at work after our temple stint, but the birthday girl assured us she would be here on Emporia by 10 PM.

Thank heavens I dropped off a bouqet of flowers at her office yesterday. Great post Sara--all so true. Lots of really nice comments, also very true for our beloved CPA daugher who is SO LOVED.

This poetry really made me miss you Laura. I missed you anyway. You do have the biggest heart of anyone I know. After having you as my visiting teacher I have such high expectations now for my poor other visiting teachers. Gourmet desserts, annonymous wrapped packages left at my doorstep, and talking into the night...I was so spoiled to have you. Love you. Happy Birthday!

I hope you had a wonderful day. I remember a few great hikes we had in Boulder. You can lead a mean, long hike. It sounds so nice right now. You are very loving and great at conversation.
