Better Know a Reader Series: Television land

I'd like to thank Carrie for that most excellent lead in to my latest inquiry about the minds of our readers. I don't know about you, but it's been a long, sad week for me. All the shows I was watching are now over, and I'm missing my TV friends. So my question to you is this: If you could "live" in a TV show (note that I said TV, not movie... we'll get to movies later), which show would it be and WHICH CHARACTER would you be?

Let's say I had to pick from the TV shows that are current right now. My top two favorites are Gossip Girl and FNL. Well, that's not entirely true... I completely adore 30 Rock but honestly, I wouldn't want to be any of those characters.

So, if I chose GG I'd definitely chose to be Blair Waldorf. She's rich but not freaky rich like some of the characters, she has by far the best clothes, and I love her looks. Dark brown hair, big brown eyes; she's so adorable. If I were her, I'd be a whole lot nicer but I'd probably pick Chuck over Nate too. Does that seem weird?

Now if I were to be a character on FNL, this is much, much harder. The obvious pick would be Lila Garrity, for the main reason that I would get to be the girlfriend of Tim Riggins. But I don't think I could take having Buddy Garrity as my dad... not even to get to kiss Tim. So then I thought that I'd maybe want to be Julie, because she's so cute and has the best parents in the world and I figured next season she'll probably steal Tim away from Lila anyway, because Lila will be off at college and Tim will probably still be in Dillon. But then I remembered that episode where Julie had her hair up, and she had the freakiest ears I've ever seen. Seriously. So I don't think I could be her either. Which puts me back at being Lila, and I've decided that this is okay because for sure Buddy is going to die of a heart attack very soon, and hopefully he has a big life insurance policy of which Lila will be the sole beneficiary, since everyone else in the family ditched him and moved with the mom (who can really blame them?)

But, let's say that you can pick a TV show that is no longer on the air. Well, then that's simple. I'll give you one guess who I'd be:

And if I had to be a character from Dora the Explorer, I'd be Benny the Bull. He's the coolest.

Good choice on Felicity. I have to say, I think I would want to be Kelly Kapowski on Saved by the Bell. She had it all, boys fighting over her, Prom queen, cheerleader.

Current shows, I want to be an amazing dancer on "So You Think You Can Dance."

I LOVE your post. The upside of having Buddy as a dad would be driving any car you want - except the fact that 90% of the choices are Fords.

I can tell you who I wouldn't be and that Ugly Betty - what is that all about?

Right now I am watching the Bachelorette. I'm thinking it would be pretty fun to play that role - b/c seriously folks, we know a lot of it is staged. I could come up with the dates like going to a Coldplay concert or making them all run a marathon and the winner would get the rose or having them come up with a unique baked item and I would choose my favorite OR they would have to be a missionary for a day.

But when it really comes down to it I would be Veronica Mars. She is so smart and being a private detective in H.S. can't be beat. She's the one everyone loves to hate.

Awesome. I love that Janice would be someone from Saved by the Bell. I didn't even think about TV shows from my youth... opens up a LOT of possibilities.

Laura, I forgot about Veronica Mars. Of course I'd want to be her, too. She's so cute, and smart. I wish I had quick comebacks to everyone like she does.

ha haaaa. you make liking tv drama cool. if we're going old tv, even though i'd hate to be a spy, i'd be that girl from alias so i could pal around with michael vartan.

This is hard. I can't really think of a current TV show. Nothing too fashionable, I don't think I could pull it off. That picture from FNLs seems like a good fit. I've never seen it but i can picture playing music on the porch, state fairs and skinny dipping in a lake. I only worry that my boyfriend could have a Obama Bin Laden sticker on his truck.

Now for shows of the past I'd be Buffy for sure! She's hot, has supper powers, and the undying love of Angel. That is the TV show for me.

Guys... Did you forget about alias? Sydney has the coolest life by far. Let's list some key points:

International travel- ALL the time
Amazing body
Crazy exciting job
Michael vaughn - do I need to go on?
Oh and she saves the united states in every episodpes

Key plusses as well are:
She is through her teens - do you really want to do those years again?
She gets to play dress up as an adult
She gets to kick people's a's without apologizing!
Oh and her arms are ripped!

Obama Bin Ladin? I love it, now who is the democrat of the group? emily, i did think of Sydney and you are right. She also has that hot guy who was in Kitchen Confidential as her best friend. BUT remember all the actors are really in their 20-30's playing highschool kids so they get to enjoy no responsibility etc. but truly be out of their teens in real life.

Wow. This is such a hard one.
Clearly, I am not watching the right shows.

I really can't think of anyone from a show that I would want to BE, but I can think of several TV jobs that I would want.

I want Jeff Probst's job!
Either that, of the guy who hosts The Amazing Race.
Or, one of the women from The Real Housewives of Orange County. (Cuz life just seems to be better when you've got a tan, fake boobs and a yacht)

ok, can someone clear up for me why annie was drenched at the prom party in the 90210 finale? i keep seeing clips of that on the soup but can't piece together why anyone would do that to annie!

even if she does flare her nostrils a lot like some people do right before they cry.

Is this the new 90210? I am dying for it to come out on DVD so I can watch it. Poor me and no cable. I'm so out of the loop!
