I really like the Better Know a Reader series. I always find your answers (the SEVEN of you who commented, no wait, Yah Yah commented twice so actually only SIX of you commented) very entertaining.
In case you were wondering, I would pick bread. I LOVE bread, especially my mom's homemade bread. I could live on that for six weeks if needed, along with chocolate. My mom usually makes bread before we come to visit, but this trip out she didn't have time, so she took an entire day to make it while we were there. I think Scout and Calder each ate an entire loaf. Nothing beats it, especially fresh from the oven. I made sure my food storage has tons of flour and yeast, so I can make it if need be. Assuming my oven would turn on, that is.
Laura, I love that your "real food" item of choice would be chocolate chip cookies. See for most of us, that's considered a treat. You crack me up.

Some of you have heard me say this before but I used to think we were poor growing up because I had to eat my sandwiches on homemade instead of WONDER bread. I used to beg for WONDER bread and my mom said "no way, you need something that will stick to your bones". Mom always made 5 loaves of wheat and 4 loaves of white and I remember the best day of each year was when the entire class would go to our house, hike up NCAR and then mom would demonstrate how to make bread. Who does that??? She would take us all downstairs and show us the wheat grinder and how it worked. I'm sure kids went home and told their parents that the Lewis family had all kinds of food and weird things in their basement [mom also was tenacious about food storage].
Anyway, now I realize what a divine treat homemade bread is and I have tasted other people's bread and I have a burning testimony that my mom's is the best.
ps: I'm still wondering if we were poor because if I wanted white tennis shoes i had to pay the difference AND I only got $1 allowance even when I was a senior in highschool.

Tell yo' mama that I really need to "test" some of her bread. Just 4 or 5 loaves. You know, just to make sure that it's as good as y'all are saying.

I'm afraid the mailman might hork the bread and then where would we be? He'd be showing up at my parents all the time with fake special deliveries and such. you what they say "the mail man always butters his bread twice"
I too lusted after wonder bread as a kid because my mom and dad made fresh wheat bread. I really like Great Harvest Honey Whole wheat bread. I make my own and it's delicious but I can't get it sliced just right. Maybe I need an industrial bread slicer. Anyway, whole wheat bread (homemade or great harvest) is so delicious and good for you. I like a slice, toasted with a smidge of honey and almond butter. I have tasted your mom's and it's so good.
