Haircut report

I hate getting my hair cut.

I always try to avoid the inevitable trauma by being prepared. I gather pictures of potential hair styles. I ask everyone I know which one they like best. I stew about it for months before I finally make the appointment and get my hair done. And 9 times out of 10, I'm very sad after.

I swear this time is worse though. I think 6-8 inches of my hair was cut off... NOT the TWO INCHES I asked for. Look at the photos below, readers. Do I exaggerate? The hat photo was taken Saturday morning before S's basketball game (where it appears she has a wedgie or something odd going on) and the other I just took 2 seconds ago.

My hair looks nothing like the three photos I brought in to show the stylist. I don't have pictures of it "styled", but basically straightened it's the Rachel haircut circa 1993 (yes... again. Why do people keep giving me this awful hair cut?) and curly, it's total mom hair.

I'm never getting my hair cut again.

ARe you kidding me, it still looks very long. The funny thing is I would KILL to have your worst haircut [and consider throwing in a couple of my limbs to boot]. Granted, the picture doesn't exactly give a proper depictions but from the way mom was talking about it, I was expecting something bad.

First, did you say anything to the stylist regarding why she cut so much off? If you don't give feedback then she'll just keep torturing other innocent clients. Secondly, I don't think you should pay if they screw it up.

No, it isn't tsunami level of disaster but I do have to empathize with getting excited for something and having it turn to a sourpatch kid.

But, you are beautiful no matter what and you have a really good personality.

Oh, did I mention the current posted picture just won't do for me.

I think you're lucky to have such beautiful curl in your hair. Don't hide it under a hat!

I have always loved your thick, curly locks. Do you go to the same person everytime? After 10 years living in Utah, I have finally found one girl that I go to more than once.

Why is it so hard to find a good hair person? I'm sure you still looking amazing.

I am sure it still looks great. You have amazing hair that looks good in so many styles. But, like Sally I would like to see real pictures.

I can sympathize. My goal for 2009 is not to attempt to cut my own bangs anymore. I have now been growing them out/cutting them for almost two years and I am always miserable after. Why do I continue to torture myself?

And Laura is right, you really do have a good personality :)

this must be a curly hair thing because you just described exactly my life-long experience with hair cuts. what's wrong with them? i suspect they know how to do the cut in the picture, just refuse to. and i'm always mad because i'm like, "you're hair looks cute so i know you don't think what you just did to me looks good."

I got that haircut a few years ago. It really made me crazy.. it was someone in Brooklyn's sister who was visiting from Utah and I think she just gave me her standard "Utah mom" haircut. And I was like "Are you kidding me?! This is the hair cut you think I deserve?!"

The good news is.. it always grows back.

And your sister is right, you do have a really good personality, and that will beat a bad haircut any day.

The rachel is coming back I hear? lol. Well you could just have someone cut the back up higher to get rid of layers? I remember in college at ricks getting a bad haircut. When I came home my mom said promise me you won't get another haircut in idaho. So, I feel your pain! we just went private on our blog, send me your e-mail ccrane@hotmail.com and I'll send you an invite.

As the mother of a stylist...Here are my tips for your hair. If you have curly hair SO must your stylist! If they don't, they just don't understand. One last comment. Hair always grows back, you just feel like crap until it does :)

So I wish you were here so I could hug you. I totally empathize. It took me years to find someone to go to without my blood pressure sky rocketing. The answer is not someone with curly hair - the answer I found is a straight guy cutting your hair. If you think about everything this girl did wrong its all the stuff a straight guy wouldn't have done: choppy layers, cutting lots of length, etc. Fly out here next hair cut and I promise you'll be happy. Last hair cut I got I couldn't even tell the length had changed - it was all just cleaner and smoother. So so sorry. But... I am going to remind you that even though you have amazing hair it is still not your best quality so hopefully that makes you feel a little better. xo

Hi Sara,

I know just how you feel. Once, while we were living in DC I had a friend who cut my hair (she was a real stylist, that's not where I'm going with this); I liked it the first time so went back again for the exact same cut. Half way through the cut she says, kind of frantically, "I can't remember how much I took off last time". I'll never forget reaching my hand up and feeling the damage. Let's just say she had to shave my neck.

Not good. Lots of crying. At least your hair is not that short!!! :) I think it still looks long-and you look like quite the hip mom in your hat!

As someone who has actually seen this haircut in person, I have to stop the drama. It's DARLING! Sara looks gorgeous, her hair is lovely, and she is making a big fuss over nothing. It is true, it is probably shorter than she expected, but it looked terrific the day I saw her. But, then again, have you ever seen Sara *not* look terrific?
